10 rules to sunbathe safely
- On the first days of your holiday, expose yourself to the sun gradually, early in the morning and late in the afternoon is the safest time, it is even better to enjoy the sun whilst walking.
- Avoid standing in the sun from 11.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. but rather stay in the shade.
- Apply water-resistant sun protection creams or lotions on all the parts of your body exposed to the sun.
- Don’t forget to apply them on lips, ears and the back of your feet and apply them once again after swimming and showers.
- Photoprotection starts by wearing light garments and hats to protect against UV rays. Medium-dark coloured garments should be preferred.
- Opt for products containing UVA and UVB sunscreens, according to your age and your skin type.
- If you have children, avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially if they are younger than 6 months, but no matter how old your children are, be always very careful.
- Do not expose yourself to the sun if you have taken drugs, such as anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, medicine for arterial hypertension, antiarrhythmic or anti-anxiety drugs.
- Skin areas which have been recently subjected to aesthetic laser treatments, chemical peeling or surgical operations with consequent scars cannot be exposed directly to the sun.
- The sun is much stronger than a cloudy sky, so don’t forget good habits when the sun is not shining.
